Response To: The Freedom of Real Apologies

In the podcast, it is a live interview between Layli Long Soldier and Krista Tippett as they discuss life of a Native American and the apology to Native Americans from the government. When Layli said “And I was personally really surprised that I hadn’t heard about it before. Part of the reason I hadn’t was because it was so quiet. And there really was not a lot of risk taken in how it was delivered.” She was referring to the apology that was said to the Native Americans from the government. It is important to note that she hadn’t heard it before because it really emphasized how much of a secret the apology was. Layli herself was a Native American and for her not to hear the apology or not even know about it really shows how secretive it was. When she stated the phrase “the arrival of Europeans opened a new chapter for Native People” She was referring to was a phrase from the government’s apology. She points to this specific phrasing because she wanted to emphasize how poetic the apology was. She explained how the apology was said in a “careful” way. The detailing of phrasing really shows the reader how the writer wants to deliver the message. Specificity is so important in this podcast because you want the listeners to understand what you are trying to persuade. This is especially important in writing when you really want your readers to understand what you are convincing. The structure of the interview is very informational and conversational. The tone was conversational. From this interview I can take that, I should ask questions that are more open-ended rather than yes/no questions. That way elaboration can take place.
