Genre 1: The Infographic
Why did you compose in this genre?
I chose this genre because I wanted something that was informational. My other genres were more interesting and catching the reader’s attention. This infographic’s purpose is to provide my audience a background on my topic. It gives a great way for my audience to know exactly what I wrote about in my first project.
Have you ever composed in this genre before?
I have never used this genre before. I was brainstorming ideas for genres. I knew I wanted to do something different. I knew everyone was going to do a poster or social media. I got stuck on what to do, so I asked one of my roommates for ideas and she gave me the idea of an infographic. At first, I didn’t know what it was and then she later explained to me and I looked at examples online and I decided to choose it as one of my genre.
Did you start with a poem? Or had you started with a different genre and switched?
No, this genre was not switched or started out as a poem.
What was the process of composing in this genre?
I found out about this genre a day before ENC class on Tuesday. When Maddie told us to tell the class what three genres we are composing in, this was a great way for me to talk to someone who was doing the same genre as me. I found out that Grant was also doing an infographic. Matter of fact, he was the only one. I went and spoke him about how he was going to create it. He told that he was going to google infographics and choose the best template for his topic. I couldn’t believe that it was just that simple. The next two days, I decided to start on it. I googled infographic and there was a lot of websites that provided free templates to use. I used a website called venngage. I signed up for free and I started on my infographic. It took about three days to create it. When I was done with the infographic there was a tab that allowed me to download it. Once I clicked on download, it says that I must upgrade first to download, and with the upgrade I had to pay for it. It was such a bummer because it was a lot of work and I couldn’t even download it for me to use it. I was highly upset. I decided to choose another website, and it just happened to be called picktochart. Once again, I signed up for another free template, this time I tried to download it and it allowed me to. However, it did not allow me to download as a PDF but as a PNG. I was able to create an infographic and download it to be printed. This website provided a better design layout for the infographic than the original design from venngage.
Where is this genre “posted” in the real world?
This genre would be posted in the girl’s bathrooms of varies buildings on Florida State’s campus and the girl’s locker room at the Leech Center.
What audience does this reach that might be different or the same than your other genres and research paper? Be specific, here.
The audience for this is going to be the same for all three genres. All three of my genres all link in one way and that is with lipsticks. In each genre, they will be about lipsticks. My genres are going to target lipstick users. I know not all makeup users use lipsticks, so I decided to be more specific and target those who wear lipsticks, or those who are interested in using lipsticks. Specifically, in this genre, I choose to put these posters in girl’s bathroom and locker rooms to target females that are into lipsticks.
Genre 2: The Lab Experiment/Demonstration
Why did you compose in this genre?
I wanted to be different with my chosen genres. I knew that this was going to be entirely different from anybody in the class let alone done by any student in ENC. I thought this was a creative way to get my point across to my audience. I wanted this genre to be a reason why my audience might believe me. I can be telling my audience something that might not be believable, but actually showing them can rearrange their thinking.
Have you ever composed in this genre before?
Yes, I have. I am in chemistry lab this semester and we do experiments every week. I was also in biology lab last semester and I did a lab every week of that semester too.
Did you start with a poem? Or had you started with a different genre and switched?
For this genre, I did start with a poem. A poem was my last resort. I couldn’t think of another genre than the two I have chosen. I knew the poem was going to be a hard genre to write. It could have been really simple but for the topic on lipstick I knew it wasn’t going to be a piece of cake.
What was the process of composing in this genre?
The first thing I did was googled experiments on makeup. I saw a website that provided a list of experimental ideas on cosmetics from wide ranges of hair products, perfume scents, and one that popped up in particular is an experiment with lipstick and lead. A person wanted to test whether darker the shade the more lead it had. The experimenter tested it with a lead detector pen and as a result of this experiment, they found out that the darker the shade the more lead there was. I looked up the lead pen trying to see if I can purchase one for this experiment and they were expensive and I wanted to know whether there were different other ways to test lead in lipsticks. I went on YouTube to find videos and I found out other ways. One video showed that if you rub a lipstick color on a piece of paper and rub it with real gold it would change colors, and If it did it, it was considered to have lead in it. I didn’t like the concept, so I tried another video. In the next video, it was trying lipstick on aluminum foil and rubbing it with a tissue, and the blacker the napkin was the more lead there was. With that video, I wanted to try it. In my experiment, I wanted to test one lipstick brand that I always wear and that was Wet n’ Wild. With this brand, I choose a vary of shades of color (light pink, regular pink, peachy pink, and light red). I replicated the experiment in the video, rubbing the lipstick on aluminum foil, grabbed a napkin and rubbed it for 10 secs and viewed the color of the napkin.
Where is this genre “posted” in the real world?
This experiment is already being posted online and on YouTube. The only difference I made was instead of trying different brands of lipstick, I decided to just use one brand that I often wear and test the different shades.

The audience for this is going to be the same for all three genres. All three of my genres all link in one way and that is with lipsticks. In each genre, they will be about lipsticks. Genre 3: The Vlog
Why did you compose in this genre?
I choose this genre because I wanted to have a video. I wanted my audience to view something that was on the media and the best way was to create a vlog. A way that I could be myself and make a creative video.
Have you ever composed in this genre before?
I’ve never made a vlog before but I have made a video in high school for a career project.
Did you start with a poem? Or had you started with a different genre and switched?
I did not start with a poem on this genre. However, my video was supposed to be a commercial and I changed it into a vlog
What was the process of composing in this genre?
I knew my video was going to be recorded at Sephora at governor’s mall in Tallahassee. I was supposed to do a commercial with my friends and we were going to get all dressed up with heels and look really cute, but that didn’t happen. They thought it was best that I do the video by myself and they would record for me. After filming, I put the video together on iMovie and I watched it multiple times and it looked nothing like a commercial, even if i tried to make it as it. I didn’t have time to go back and record it all over. I decided to make it into a vlog. I always watched YouTube vlogs and that’s all I use to watch, so I was very familiar with it. I put clips and pieces of me recording myself to make it look more realistic. I know a vlog is way more than 2 mins (this is how long my video is) but I wanted to be considerate of the time limit presentation, 5 minutes max. I was able to put the video all together with edits and background music and I loved how it turned out.
Where is this genre “posted” in the real world?
The genre was posted on YouTube.

Anything else you want to tell me about making these compositions? Now is the time.
I feel kind of iffy about my vlog. I’m not sure if it’s a good representation of a vlog because it’s only two minutes. I hope I get my point across with this genre and people understand where I was trying to go with this.
Genre #1: Inforgraphic

Genre #2: YouTube Vlog
Genre #3: Lab Experiment
In this experiment I will be demonstrating what shade of lipstick has the most lead. To test this observation, I will be rubbing lipsticks on aluminum foil and they rubbing it with a tissue paper for 10 seconds and then observe the color of the tissue. If it turns out to be black that means it has lead. I will be trying a brand called Wet and Wild. This brand is something I wear often and the most chosen lipsticks from drug stores. This will be demonstrated in class.
