Kyle Stedman wrote a paper about ways people use sources that “annoyed” or simply confused him. He compared these annoyances to simple things like, armadillo roadkill and Uncle Barry and his Encyclopedia of Useless Information. Let’s talk about an annoyance he created called dating Spiderman. Kyle Stedman describes dating Spiderman like talking about something then suddenly leaving without an explanation. In writing, it’s like introducing or ending a paragraph with a quote, but not explaining to the readers what the quote means. Here is an example:

Everyone needs help occasionally. We all must face adversity in our life and its is our duty to either face them by ourselves, with someone’s help, or just ignore them completely. I remembered when I needed help with my chemistry lab assignments and my roommates were always there to help me. I always try to help them whenever possible because they always help me. My brother always say, “Never bite the hand that feeds you.”

As you can see, a quote was added at the end of the paragraph, but it is kind of a cliffhanger because I did not explain the quote.

An annoying way I do most in my writing is probably dating Spiderman. I say this because I always try to end or begin a paragraph with a quote. I thought that was a good way to catch the reader’s attention. I also thought that explaining quotes weren’t necessary because the quotes are self-explanatory. To correct this, I can simply explain my quotes after I write them.

Ranking as a professor

1. I Can’t Find the Stupid Link

2. Uncle Barry and His Encyclopedia

3. Armadillo Roadkill

4. Dating Spiderman

5. Am I in The Right Movie

6. I Swear I Did Some Research.

Ranking as a College Student

1. Armadillo Roadkill

2. Uncle Barry and His Encyclopedia

3. Dating Spiderman

4. Am I in the Right Movie

5. I Can’t Find the Stupid Link

6. I Swear I Did Some Research

I did a lot of changes in the rankings. One major change was the rank of “I Can’t Find the Stupid Link” I changed this because college professors are so big on pl. They view it as a huge policy and an important concept to avoid in writing. I put that rank almost at the bottom for a college student because students don’t really care for references. College students put a reference cited page because they are required to.
