Consider The Lobster Response

The genres of writing I can identify in “Consider the Lobster” can be a wide variety of things. I would say its kind of a research paper, because David Foster Wallace provided background information about what a lobster is he also goes on to tell us background information about the Marine Lobster Festival(MLF). I can also say it’s a narrative because he talks about a story and gives opinions on it as well. The importance of the footnote is that he wants to elaborate more on the concept but does not want to say in in the actual article to make it seem like he kept rumbling on or gets off topic. For example, footnote 2 he states that the people did not want to be talked about in the article. It wasn’t necessary to put it in the article; however it was nice to know the reason behind not elaborating more in the footnote. The footnote was basically there to clear the readers of any confusion. I can say that the article does shift topics a lot. The author would talk about the festival then write about what a lobster is then goes to say how the MLF is not really a MLF and then talks about how a lobster should be cooked. I could say it was jumping around. What Wallace mean by “Consider the Lobster” is that take consideration of the lobster. How we should handle them or how we should cook them. I guess you can say that he wants us to respect a lobster because a lobster has benefitted us. He said that lobsters go through pain before we actually eat them and we should be more mindful, of that.
